Pat Robertson Speaks to the People of Earth Once Again

Yes, the man who agreed that homosexuals, pro-choicers, and constitutional scholars had caused the 9/11 attacks has spoken again. Pat Robertson, the oracle of oddity, says -- DURING A FUNDRAISING BROADCAST FOR THE PEOPLE OF HAITI following the devastating earthquake there -- that Haiti has been suffering because it made a pact with a devil. And he wasn't speaking metaphorically, like the pact with the devil that is made by everyone who watches this wingnut. No, according to this transcript provided by Media Matters, the Haitians made a literal pact with Darth Maul himself:

And, you know, Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, "We will serve you if you will get us free from the French." True story. And so, the devil said, "OK, it's a deal."

While it's obvious he's politicking to get a spot on a future national ticket with Sarah Palin, he probably has sunk their chances by turning off the large Satan crowd that currently supports them.

What to Do When a Liar Lies?

GOP Rep. Wilson's childish -- and factually incorrect -- shout during President Barack Obama's speech (oh, just because it'll annoy the Wilsonite Right even more, let's reiterate that: President Barack Hussein Obama) claimed that the president was lying about health-care reform not providing coverage for illegal aliens. The fallout for him was swift, as was the help for his Democratic mid-term opponent, so there might be some hope for a sense of decency in this country after all. Worst of all for his party, Wilson's claim is now being widely and definitively debunked.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (and, full disclosure, my U.S. Representative) showed both political smarts and wisdom by downplaying the possibility of disciplining Wilson through the House governance. According to NPR, Pelosi said the House will probably "move on" and not censure Joe Wilson, adding that she didn't want to give the incident any more attention "than it deserves."

See, because it's already getting all the attention it deserves.

Obama's Birth Certificate, Even if the Lunatics Ignore It

The so-called "birthers" movement is so crazed and ridiculous, what does this say about GOP congressional members who can't bring themselves to denounce the movement? They're all such products of the power-by-any-means school of Republican tricks that none of them have the guts to simply challenge the wingnuts in their town hall meetings and tell them that they're lunatics, they're flat our wrong, and they should return to reality and stop wasting our time. In those words -- not nicely, not respecting their "intelligence"; be brave and let 'em have it.

After all, any GOP congressperson who doesn't realize that every time a "birther" erupts on the public stage the Democrats cement thousands more votes -- well, that GOPer is too ignorant to survive long.
